Holidays in Review: Our Tree

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is getting our tree from one of the NYC street vendors. The vendors usually set up shop the first weekend after Thanksgiving--- replacing the usual "questionable" smells of the sidewalks with pine and fir tree goodness!
We base our tree selection on two questions: 'Which one can fit in our apartment?' and 'Which one has the most character?'
character= missing a limb here and there, not as full as the others, big around the middle and small at the bottom, or any other "charlie brown" tree characteristics you can think of.
This years pick was a Balsam Pine--- skinny (great for space issues), lots of character, and he smelled like Christmas! He was a great addition to our holiday festivities!
This is the tree section that always prompts the question: "How big does one's apartment have to be to fit a Christmas tree this size?"
Ida- the Christmas elf- spent the night guarding the tree from Stiffs McGee (pictured lurking in the corner behind Ida) and drinking the tree's sugar water.
